As you may know, since a long time we have been doing scene by scene filtering for most of our releases. Since original disk quality is most often subpar, filtering is required (mostly debanding and antialiasing, but sometimes other problems too). Since any filtering has a fairly big unwanted impact in other places, the only proper way to do it is scene by scene where it’s needed.

We thought it’s about time to extend this to the old cell anime as well, which suffer from moderate to nauseating shaking. Some releases (jinroh, nadia, whisper) benefit from replacing of the really badly aligned frames which occur after and before scene changes, which brings a big improvement but it’s only half the job done.

So using professional software we are going to stabilize old anime scene by scene, utilizing 2-3 methods and then choosing for each scene the best result.  The results are good to to very good but not perfect, since often only parts of the frame shake, and sometimes the image is squeezed or stretched which doesn’t seem to be covered by any software.

So please enjoy the first two releases: Cowboy bebop movie and Yamadas.

Next on the list are Honneamise and Escaflowne movie. Oh, and expect releases to be rarer.
