Regarding the poster saying that the HDTV rip floating around was terrible, I have to disagree. Comparing the bluray side-by-side w/ the HDTV rip ([B-G]_Akira.HDTV[720p]_(H.264_DTS-5.1)_[DA2778D5]_eng.mkv), the HDTV rip was pre-processed to look cleaner and more vibrant. If you ask me, the picture looks much better than the newly released bluray. Of course, an Akira bluray rip has the potential to look just as clean with a few filters.

By the way guys this release was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in years,I first saw Akira from a video-tape rip in vcd format and now here we got the ever-amazing blu-ray-rip. I think;I’ll just go and cry for the quality of it… ^_^ Thanks a million times!!!!

Is there a way to contact the admin to THORanime? Or a FAQ page detailing as to HOW to convert these files so as to retain:
(1) the 720p or 1080p image
(2) the DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1 surround
(3) the subtitle track

That’s because the unrecognized track is the subtitle file.

Also, when using TSmuxer, how do you carry over the subtitles from the MKV file to the M2TS file? I just muxed CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO and there are no subs on the blu-ray (m2ts)conversion.

How do you guys (and gals) feel about TSmuxer? It’s way faster than mkv2vob, but Iseem to be having problems with just the THORanime mkv files. Whenever I use TSmuxer for a THORA mkv file I get this message: “Some tracks not recognized. This tracks ignored: (insert mkv file name). Anyone know what is happening?

just to give u guys an idea… u know that mkv can be demuxed ? that u can remux it into a mp4 (at least the 720p encodes are full l4.1 compatible, and in this case even the 1080p) ? the only thing that might need recode is the dub, but those who dares to recode the video needs to get their hands copped off . Besides, guys its up to you to hack that stupid PS3 (yes, i’m no big fan of it^^) and make a custom player that allows some more formats.

There is a project currently going on at code.google.com written in Java that does on the fly transcoding of mkv files to a format that is playable by the PS3. You might wanna check it out possibly. I have not personally tried it but the people in that forum seem to think its the bees knees!

mkv2vob should work. The video is compatible if ps3 supports this nonstandard resolution. The audio most probably needs converting however.

“RedSwirl”:PS3 CAN NOT play MKV files,so you have to convert it,as you say above.
Into AVI,MPEG,DivX.
Though there are many programs out there to do so & since no-one has answered your question yet,i would recommend you MediaCoder to do so.

Would anybody know how to get this stuff playing on a PS3? It would be nice to play these downloads on my HDTV hooked up to surround sound.

I keep trying PS3Video 9 and MK2VOB but I’ve had problems with both. I either get no sound or just an unusable file after eight hours of converting.

Also, there aren’t many places I can talk about converting this stuff without getting banned.
