Will there be a 1080p release? One of the things that puzzle me on this site is why do they only release 720p for some series when they can release a much higher quality 1080p. I really hope there will be a 1080p version.

quality over quantity if they could release 1080p, and it will be better than 720p, they will do it. But i saw 1080p, on torrents, and they or the same quality or even lower. Thora rip is rulz ^____^

@quality over quantity: I think, and this is only my personal opinion, some stuff are all right with 720p, and 1080p would only increase the file size without really enhancing video quality, stuff like Appleseed and Advent Children are stuff that should definitely be seen with 1080p, whereas maybe some anime series that don’t include that high motion scenes might be all right with 720p, either way, I’m glad you’re releasing stuff at 720p since that’s the only way I’d be able to watch them, and even if I could play 1080p, I’d take WAY too long to download. 4-6 GB for each movie is more than enough for me. Don’t feel like downloading 10+ for only single movie.

And some comments about the 720p/1080p debate:
I would personally release everything in 1080p too, even if the quality of the bluray source doesn’t approve it. 1080p is getting more and more popular these days, and in one or two years, it will be a normal thing (probably). Then everyone will whine that the 720p-only encodes need an 1080p rework for “obvious” reasons. It happened with KAA: earlier they’ve used XviD and hardsubs, and after some time, everyone wanted a rework with H264 and softsubs.

Of course, even 720p is better than nothing…

There is no sense to upscale them to 1080p. Those users ho has 24″ monitors can resize it to it’s resolution, and the 720p will look like 1080p without any re-encode. It will make the file size bigger, but not the quality.

Upscaling a 720p encode to 1080p (literally) is pointless, I agree. What I mean is: re-encode from source in 1080p.

A friend told me that if you want to prove that a 1080p encode is pointless, you need to upscale some 720p encode pics to 1080p, and compare them with the bluray source itself. Is this true?

my screen’s resolution is 1440×900 and 720p is already good enough for me. IMO i think 1080 would benefit large screen users.

Well, I also agree that upscaling is pointless if the source is 720p like what Jaden pointed out. However, from the official Fate/stay Night websites it seems that the source is in 1080p. The following are the links for you guys to check it out yourself

Ops, I just realised that it may be in 1080i instead of 1080p. In that case, then releasing only a 720p version would be understandable

As i know 1080i = 1440×1080 auto resize to 1920×1080, and 1080p = 1920×1080.

Yeah the “i” in 1080i stands interlaced video, which is meant for analog screens (e.g. CRT screens). Whereas the “p” in 1080p stands for progressive scan, which is meant for digital screens (e.g. LCD, plasma, etc.). Now if you want to play a 1080i resolution on a digital screen, you have to deinterlace it first, and that degrades the video quality quite a bit. Plus, progressive scan takes up more memory in order to bring you more quality, unlike interlaced videos.

Just wondering, is this going to be softsubbed (all episodes + op and ed)? I had an avi version from eclipse and their ops and eds were hard-subbed… Would like to know (since I already have a raw file, but not at 720p/1080p)…

Anyway, just wondering why the ED is not in the episodes (in Episode 1 at least) – is this how the BD source was….?

Thanks for subbing all the way to 15 lol. Admire the quality, though I’ve noticed how the file sizes now ranges from 500-700MB. Not that it matters, I’m just curious why normal 720p ones are around 330MB-360MB while this is about 2x larger..

CCJ you can’t compare DBrip’s and not only them. Every anime have there video data, that can be bigger duy to high quality actions scene, or just good animation or maybe how was made this o that BD made. One thing i can tell you clearly: if Thora make it with size 600-700mb – than it is the optimal for there quality/size ^___^.

I’ve just downloaded a 1080p BluRay release of the 2nd episode of FSN (from Anime-Supreme) and compared it with the 720p version from THORA. I’ve captured some pictures from both releases, resized THORA’s 720p release to 1080p and compared it with the 1080p pictures. Now I must admit that a 1080p release is not worth. The native 1080p video is nothing better than the 720p video from THORA. The image quality of the BluRay source is not sharp enough to justify a 1080p release.

Bottom line: a 720p release of FSN is sufficient.

In 99,9% of times there’s nothing wrong with Thora’s releases so it’s probably a problem on your side.

In which way can’t it be played, as a stand alone file or it doesn’t show when you play the episode?

If it’s the latter then you should make sure you’re using a player that supports ordered chapters.

I got FSN from IRC and it’s working fine so if the problem persists, try getting ED from IRC.

I use KMPlayer to play mkv file
The ED file is continue to play but the picture is stand still and there’s no sound at all
And even it doesn’t finish playing the file, it automatically skip to the next file
I really don’t have any idea what this problem is
All the order files is oke

Ok, the problem is most probably the codecs and KMPlayer.

To have you’re Thora files working properly download and install CCCP codec pack and use Media Player Classic to play the files. The problems will disappear.

Windows Media Player Classic comes with the windows installation (XP, don’t know about Vista), so you can find it in Program Files. But I suggest you use MP Classic Home Cinema that will be installed automatically (if I’m not mistaking) with CCCP.

If it’s not, just search it on google, it’s free.

And one last thing, if you want to watch 1080p you’ll probably need CoreAVC, but for more on that look in Evangelion page.

I use Vista and I can’t find MPC anywhere so I just download it from this page http://www.pree-codecs.com and cccp from this page cccp-project.net
And after finishing install it, everything work well
But I still have a question, in the ED, does the karaoke appear later than the lyric?
And you say I need the CoreAVC to watch 1080p, right, so where can I find it (you want me to look at Evangelion page huh, I’ll do it right away)

No, there’s nothing wrong with karaoke, they appear simultaneously with the lyrics.

About getting CoreAVC, somebody wrote in on the Evangelion page, just search for it in the comments. Actually, read all the comments, some of them are really helpful.

At first, the karaoke appear correctly but it run slowly and after a while it appear later than the lyric
If I turn off the sub and then turn on again, it appear correctly with the lyric at that time but then it still run slowly and the same problem happen again

hey guys, did you know something happen to episode 3 in the torrent. Instead of receiving episode 3 I got something else completely different. The file is still the same but the content is about Vietnamese communists in the Vietnam war (audio is in Vietnamese also).
